Jeravna, Bulgaria- International Festival of folk costumes 2019.
This was the 12th year this festival has gathered thousands of enthusiasts all over Bulgaria, Europe and beyond for a weekend. The rules were strict- during the 3 days and on the territory of the festival, you are to enjoy the traditions of our ancestors and under no circumstances you can import or use modern items, like phones, watches, plastic items, etc.
The participants enjoyed an amazing array of costumes, traditional organic food, numerous performances and even had the chance to actively join the “horo”- the Bulgarian traditional dance, consisting of men and women holding hands together. From a distance, it seemed super easy, but it was a pretty intense cardio, making those who attempted it appreciate the stamina of our grandparents.
During the night, a joyful bonfire was the focus point of all enthusiasts who joined the national dances. The festival united representatives of different countries, making it a truly enjoyable international fiesta.
Can’t wait for next year, this was truly amazing experience!
